I found a couple parts in the Imperial today. Can anyone tell me what the relay is for? I have no idea what the round piece is. It would either be liquid or air. The end of the cylinder is marked Bendix and the end obviously came off at one point in time. I tried to open it up but couldn't get it to budge without getting ugly. The cross hatch pattern on the rubber mount came from the jaws of my vice.

Here's a bigger shot of the relay.

With an end cap that comes off in less than a quarter turn? I know this thing is a boat but I didn't expect to find a bilge pump.

If it's got an internal filter, why not?
Is there a readable part number on it?

There is a number on the plate with the wires. One side says 1922 but I can't read the other side. The fitting on the left in the picture is marked IN and the opposite fitting is marked OUT.
It's made by Bendix. I didn't know they made pumps. To the best of my knowledge this is not an anti lock brake car. I do not see a computer in the trunk unless it's behind the partition with the rear air unit.

Holy cow! The redhead did something right. Who'da thunk it?
I'll stick with the bilge pump theory. Kinda odd that the pump would have a removeable end cap.

The pump looking thing with that cap held on the way it is looks similar to the low pressure lift pump off the diesel in my old sailboat , at least the filter I had to change was held in by a cap like that. dooooh , I didn't read the whole thread I got tree'd by a day or 2 ?

Yes indeed, it is a lift pump, usually for diesel. It is still on the spec for a NYC garbage truck, and it's plumbed with tees and checks to be used as a helper via switch on the dash. The end cap comes off to reveal a screen.

looks just like the elect fuel pump from my 85 nisson king cab yes it comes off for a filter the relay looking thing looks like the relay under the dash that turned the pump on as long as it had oil pressure IIRC looks like it might have been for primming the barge after it had been in dry dock for a while should be a higher pressure than most other banger pumps like it
