Hi all,
My 70 Cuda is getting close to final paint, and the painter is willing to freshen up the engine compartment without the engine being taken out, so I am glad about that. My plan was to drive the car since it runs, until its time to go through the engine if that should happen. The car sat from 1987 until this year when I bought it. Its a 383, the painter is taking out the radiator and I will take it to a shop to have it flushed and checked and I thought I would replace the water pump now too. Any suggestions for other things I should replace with this much taken apart for the painting, I know that sitting that many years lots of things could be compromised, but the car does run...I would just like to do as much prevention as I can now to avoid immediate problems. Thanks all!
Phyllis

Sounds like a nice find! Is it a 4 speed or automatic? Any chance of posting some pictures or giving us a little more info about the car?

It's a good idea to look at all the rubber: brake hoses, belts, coolant & heater hoses, and all the fluids & filters.
There's a fair amount of stuff to pull out of the engine compartment: wiring, hoses, electrics, washer jar & stuff, battery, tray & brackets, apron tag (paint tray, brackets & tag loose)...and a fair amount of masking & bagging for the stuff that shouldn't have overspray on it.

Sooner or later you are going to also have to address the suspension. Before I drove it I would want to replace all the bushings, tie rods, etc. It is a pain but not that much of a pain and the peace of mind is will worth it. Take a look at your breaks and all the lines too, especially those flex lines.

I am usually not successful at the pics, but will try this album. The car is a 383 4 speed, was sitting for several years...these are 4 pics of it as I found it...if I get these to show I will send some of it in final primer as it looks this week, getting ready for paint....

Well, that was kind of ugly, but at least you see the pics...I really have to figure out how to put those up with less pain!

Anyway, I got the car in February...it has been sitting since 1987. It is a 383 4 speed car it has the original trans, and a warranty replacement engine, it runs, and what you see is what I have been working with...there was very little rust, and it is now gone...so I will try again to post the pics as of this week in final primer. I have already replaced the brakes, had the master cylinder rebuilt,(kept the original one) have a new gas tank and sending unit for it, will put them in after I get it back from paint.
Will send a new pic of the primer.....I love this car, I looked for about 4 years before I found one I thought was right...can't wait to see it in new paint!
