I have a CSI electric water pump on a mild 440 and was wondering if I should be running a thermostat? It is a street/strip car and runs a tad bit warm even on the highway (200ish). Just wondering if the thermostat would help. If it would help, which size would be best? Thanks in advance!
...Electrics don't flow a lot of water as is, so I don't think I would restrict it any. They are a constant flow rate and they dont speed up with the motor, except a little when above Idle (alternator output), & dont need restictions. I assume you have the 37gph CSI, there was a 30gph earlier that had 3 straight impeller's. ...The thermostat I feel makes the motor run at least that temperature rated by restriction/stopping flow to do so. ...Also "cooling" a motor has a lot of veriables & aint easy the way problems camouflage them selves. ...A tad over 200 aint to bad but, what Radiator, Fan, Shroud, will make a difference too. ...I have a CSI 37gph & never saw over 200 till I had my foot in it long enough producing a little more heat than the "flow rate" could handle. I dont use/need any fans till I'm in town or slow traffic.

I have a CV electric pump with a 180 stat and a HHR fan with a new aluminum rad from Mancini's.It runs about 200-210 after about 20 minutes on the highway(3000 RPM) but runs about 185-190 in traffic when running slow. Gus

I ran a 160º stat with a Meziere electric water pump on the street. Car ran great on the highway, never went past 190º, even in the middle of the summer here in Florida. I suggest drilling a few 1/8" holes around the perimeter of the stat, to eliminate the possibility of collapsing the lower hose. Been there, done that.

I just run cheap summit electric pump with a 160 thermastat champion 2 1" core radiator and a perma cool shroudless fan it gets max 190 after sitting in staging and doing a full pass. car normally runs 160-170. 12.5-1 compression idles all day at 180.
