My heads have been ported by a good machine but still have the 2.02 valves. I do have a pretty large roller cam and 422 cubic inch 318 engine. Best of 10.91 all steel car with heater , wipers , and a banging stero. I love a stroker small block.

Bobby, to give you a quick run down on the SBO, It is a weak looking 403 block. But you should see the girdle we are making for it. LOL. It is a halo girdle but will connect to the block as well. The machining bill is just growin'! hahaha. This is a project we have been picking away at. maybe we will finish it off for next season, and put it into our brown four door 1978 cutlass cruiser wagon. She's a Beaut.

Joe, what does your car weigh in at? I forget. It is tubbed and ladder bar'd right? She's scooting along nicely!

Hey Kenny, it weighed in at 3400 lbs with me in it at Atco a couple of years ago. It does have ladder bars and tubs , but full interior. Thanks, Joe

I guess another way to look at my combo is if I can try to use up the heads I got in as few RPM as possible, I like the idea of running a 106 centerline and keeping the peak RPM down, the Victor (I'm almost done porting) will take some grunt offthe bottom and make a bit more upstairs (above 4000) so the 4000-6200 should still be strong.

I know there's a lot more in a full ported set but I've gone low 11's with big blocks in much heavier cars with heads that I bet didn't flow as well (or rev as fast) as this 414 will.

You will be suprised by the torque of a small stroker. With a decent port job and the right cam it will pull like a big block and rev like a small block. No downside for the setup as I see it. Good luck.

Oh yeah, I do know strokers very well

Of course I've built a lot more BB ones but I've done several small blocks too. The issue is really how far I can push the stock Eddies before they lay down, the consensus seems to be about 500hp (which is PLENTY for this thing).

That dude would be fast with a hot briggs and stratton. 500 hp in that car will be a heck of a ride. But really You can make at least 500 hp with stock Eddie heads. I personally like the heads and even stock they are much better than the old cast heads.

Seems there's a correlation between higher compression and higher (than othwerwise expected) horsepower out of these heads. My view is If you can't run pump gas abouve around 10.75:1 or so anyway you might as well jack the CR as high as it is practical...I think I'll shoot for 12:1 which I think is where a 414 will come up zero deck with a no dish Flat top and a 64cc head.

I have a 360 stock crank, stock rods, kb flat top pistons, e-heads ported by Hughes with approximately 11.7-1 compression and it runs great on 93 octane. 11.21 at 121mph

I have a 418 in my Challenger that weighs 3720 race weight. Previously it has been as quick as 6.92 and 10.98 @ 120.5, but about 2 weeks ago I ran 6.89 on the brakes. It would have been 6.88 @ around 98.5 mph. It has ported Edelbrocks, Victor intake, 950HP carb, cam is 262in 268ex 110 centerline with 11.55 compression and all I have ever run is pump 93 octane.

I've got a pump gas 410 stroker that ran 6.89 @ 97.75 in Dallas a couple weeks ago. Engine dyno says 535hp @ 6200rpm. Valve springs have been changed but thats all that has been done to the Edelbrock heads. Engine is in a 74 Duster.

I'm very impressed with the numbers guys are laying down with the E-heads!

I just want to put a solid reliable combo but I need to shift as much power upstairs (take torque off the bottom)

The combo will be:

4.06" x 4" = 414
6.123 H beam rods
Flat top (JE's or Diamonds), should come up right at 12:1 for Zero deck
255/260 @.050 .568/576 Solid Flat tappet, 106/106
Eddie heads (the ones I have VJ/Bowl blend/pushrop pinch to ~1.02" (thanks for
the tip, Ryanj!)
1 5/8" A body headers (too small but they fit perfectly)
830 annular holley (was a tad too big for the 341)
Ported 340 Victor

Trans 904 with a 3500 stall T/A

Rear 8 3/4 W 4.56's, 295/65R15 M/T Drag radials

Weight right around 3000 w/me (245) in it.

going 1/8th mile, probably not enough gear for the 1/4 (like I need 4.56's now anyway )

yeah the little 341 was a lot of fun but once I added the roll cage and rear (thanks Lenny ) she wound up being a little heavier than I first planned, the 414 will have an easier time of it but I hope it doesn't flip me over on the launch.

Our build up had basically just polished heads, a flat tappet cam, crosswind intake and a 650 demon carb. I wasn't too happy with the numbers, it was a 11+ CR engine run on pump gas and made 468 hp at 6000 rpm and 490 ft-lb of tq. I think there was something wrong with the combo, other carb, intake and headers, and I believe it would have made 500 hp.

jyrki,

was that a stroker motor? if so i think a bigger carb would have helped the HP up top, especially running a dual plane intake.

My Machinint thinks 480hp would be no problem and maybe 500 with no more than what's already done to the E-heads. I just spent 3 hours finishing up the porting of the Victor Intake, I think it's going to work real well.

I'd love to be able to run a bigger tube header on this motor but it doesn't look like that's in the cards right now.

I'll keep my eye out for a set of W5's in the mean time, maybe I'll have enough $$$ after I sell my wicked little 341.

I have a set of brand new in the box W5's collecting dust. Not sure what I am going to do with them yet. There is a local guy here thinking of buy them off me. I have the castings, crane gold 1.5's, hold downs, and a 2-4 tunnel ram
