Hey Guys, my uncle is the original owner of his 73 Duster 340 four speed car. He is in the process of a ground up restoration. He is adding some goodies to dress the car up a bit. One is a hood scoop. He bought an O.E.M. one off of a guy that said it would fit his car. The problem is there is a big gap in the front wear it meets the hood. The pics I added are of a spare 73 hood he had, just to mock it up to see what it would look like. I put a white peice of paper behind the gap so you could see how big it is. Our question is was there a different base made for different hoods? Have any of you seen this before?

Thanks Scott!

You most likely have a Dart Sport scoop, they have a sharper center hood line than the Duster did. The base for a 72 Demon would be more flush, so there was different bases. I am not sure a Snorkle scoop was even offered for Dusters from 73-up. Someone correct me if so.

Thanks for the reply, My uncle bought a junk 72 Demon hood that had a scoop at one time for the hole patterns. By the way the paint was faded it looked like it too had a gap in front. So we thought someone might have added the scoop somewhere along the way. We just want to know for sure if they made different bases. If they did he wants to find the correct one. And no you could not get the snorkle scoop on the 73 Duster but he really likes the look!

Thanks Again Scott!

I'm pretty sure they only offered one scoop for both the Darts and Dusters, but I have been wrong before. I had one on my old '73 Duster and it fit fine on the factory steel hood. Have you tried sliding it all the way to the back edge of the hood? I seem to remember my scoop was less than an inch from the back edge of the hood. Also, does it look like maybe someone "modified" the bottom of the scoop? Got a picture of the bottom of the scoop?

Rich

There are two bottoms available for that scoop.Until recently I had both scoops and they were factory, not modified. One came on a 73 Dart Sport, not sure about the other.
