there is a 5.7 hemi for sale close to me with a broken valve for cheap so im thinking of fixing it and put it in my Duster.
It will be carburated.
What electronic gismo/s will i need to get ignition?
Seems no harnesses is there. (may get from a junkyard)
Or is there a way to mount a distributor?
I read at f.a.s.t web that they have some box (XIM) that will work without the efi that is not very expensive (650$) but will i need anything else with it?

The valve spring is a cheap fix as long as it just a cracked valve. Might as well get all the valves lapped and throw in a set of 6.1 Exhaust valve springs in case you ever decide to put a cam in it.

MSD has everything you need with their 6-HEMI ignition. Just choose the right harness 05 or 06 plus (Depending on which valve covers you want to run)

Mopar, Edelbrock and XV all have carbed intakes and they all look really good. I've used them all.

thanks.

Msd have a box called 6 hemi and according to their intructions also a wiring harness for 03-05 engines.
But is that all i need? the msd 6 hemi and harness?

How big valves can you use in the 5.7 heads?
is it possible to run the 6.1 valves on both int and ex?
And how big cam can you run?
See that hughes have kind of big cams but i read somewhere about problems with piston to valve clearence.
Have anyone experienced this?

thanks

Yes, just the box and harness. It's pretty simple. You need a laptop to set the timing curve too.

There is no need for upgraded valves. The stock 2 piece valves will not give you an issue. Save your money.

If my memory serves correct, I remember seeing a advertisement in a magazine for something called CHIPKILLER. Supposed to convert the new hemi to a distributor system.

Glad to be back in the hobby.

bigger valves for more flow?
The seller says one valve is snapped in two so i guess there will be some head work, and maybe a piston and in worst case a cyl sleeve and rod.
Manley sells 2.02 and 1.575.
Maybe thats as big as you can go.

Im gonna go and buy it this weekend.
about 530$
This build will all depend on how much damage there is to it.
In the best case just repair the valve damage and buy the Msd stuff, TTI headers, a Hughes cam with springs, a milodon pan and a new carb intake.
Its either the e-brock dual or the XV single.
In the worst case insert engine in trash can.

Well it turned out about the way i thought.
An intake valvespring probably broke first so the valve let go.
Gonna need one new piston (Or 8 new forged) 1 new int valve and one ex 1 new valve guide, new springs (new cam anyway), pushrods. Dont know yet if i need any new valve seats or a cyl sleeve.

Actually i got 3 builds before this so atleast i got time to collect parts.
If any of you guys have these parts laying around feel free to contact me and well make a deal.
Some pics of the damage.
