My brothers 67 Polara conv. just lost drive, He pulled out of his parking spot(reverse),then went to shift into drive and the shifter wouldn't move past neutral? Here's the deal ,it's a 727 behind a 383, column shift,I crawled underneath it to take a look, (nothing broken or loose) ,I disconnected the linkage and it moves freely at the column, the arm cominig out of the trans can be moved by hand into the reverse position and I assume neutral position ,but it won't move any further! Anybody have any ideas what it could be, the car has been driven alot this summer with no transmission issues at all until this? Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance! Limechallenger

I'm not sure what you'll find or that it will even be obvious, but I suspect you'll see something.

It should be fairly obvious what is wrong once you get the pan off. I suspect that the manual valve is jammed or the linkage that operates it is bent. Not a common problem but can happen if the linkage has been out of adjustment for a long time or the car has been abused.
