I have a 73 Charger which we are converting to a 440 etc. Believe we need to first change out the brakes to disc over the existing 4 wheel drum.

That being said lets assume I am a completely inexperienced mopar person. How do I go about determining the right kit to replace the one installed and who would you recommend as a vendor to buy it from? Also, 4 wheel disc or just the front kit?

I know I have to do springs driveshaft, transmission etc. Anything else I missed?

Thanks in advance.

there are a lot of kits depending on what you want out of it.
auto cross is differen then street driving only, is different then drag racing, etc..
budget, what wheels and tires, etc..

Then there is the stock route with m-body spindles, someone also remakes the late a-body spindles now.

I'd start w stock 11&3/4" rotors w some agressive pads & a good breakin procedure to bed in the pads. It'd be the cheapest & would prob be plenty of brake

Shouldn't a 73 Charger already have disc brakes on it as standard equipment from the factory?
Correct me if i'm wrong on this one, please.

Correct, no front drums on 1973 or newer B body cars.

Well there goes my ignorance then...lol I bought it as a 73 and the title which matches the numbers says 73 but there have been a couple of things on there that did not match up well. They did correspond to a 72. Quite the hybrid apparently so I would guess that I have a 72? Did they come with 4 wheel drums?

Anyway yes, thank you for the links. I am simply looking for a reasonably priced set of disc brakes as the drums will never shut down the 440 well. THe car will be a daily driver/weekend fun rig so we are not hopping up the motor a whole lot just a bit.

So the front would be sufficient then you think? Should I try to upgrade to a power brake kit or just go with the basics?

Thanks again.

yes 1972 would have all 10 inch drums on base car, 1973 even 318 car has disc, does your k-frame have rubber pucks betwwen frame and k? if so its 1973 car, if k frame bolts right to frame its 1972 car

Big difference between 1972 and 1973 B body cars. Actually, it is a huge difference. The entire suspension changed in 1973 and very few parts will interchange.

Figure out what you have and then go from there. There are disc brakes that will fit either year of car but you need to know what you're working with so you can buy the correct parts.

We used the Stainless Steel Brakes kit on a 68 B body and a 70 E body after doing the junk yard reto rebuilt thing on a 69 B body. I did not save enough money between the time spent on clean/repair/rebuild of old stuff to make it worth it to me. The kit was complete with nice new stuff that fit. All of the cars are big block and 2 are sold and gone but still around with no problems. Talk to Feets if you really want brakes and there are quite a few on here that think they are not as important but the best brakes you can buy are cheaper than a crash.
