I can not get the parking brake light in the dash of my '74 Duster to work to save my life.

I believe it should come on when I have the car running and pull (engage) the park brake.

I have a feeling that something may be missing from the switch on the parking brake under the dash.

Does anyone have a picture (or can take one) of the parking brake switch on the parking brake lever under the dash? Mine only has one wire going to it and I dont see how it is supposed to work.

Thanks for any help!

I don't have a picture but one wire is correct.

The switch is just a ground wire. The lamp has + voltage to it and the switch provides the ground to pass current through it and turn it on.

Have you checked the bulb? if so ground that wire and the light should come on. If not it's a fuse/wiring/circuit board on the back of the instruments problem. If it does it's a switch problem.

is the same switch used on A bodies trunk lights and several door jam switches, with bullet kind terminal

maybe some diff on threat size, but same kind of switch

it attaches directly on to parking brake plate system, and gets a black wire

Yes, I believe that is the switch! I am going to pull the gauge cluster this weekend and check the light, board, and wiring harness out. If it all checks out I will replace the switch.

Thanks for the help!

simply ground the wire arriving to the switch, and check for the light lighting up. IT MUST

if not, problem is at wire, pin at pirnted circuit board, socket or bulb

if gauges are working, positive side of socket is working, since is the same source

Alright, that is what I was thinking, I grounded the wire to the floor pan and the light didn't come on. I was starting to second guess my self and started wondering if I was missing something.

All the gauges work except the fuel gauge. I need to pull the cluster to trouble shoot the fuel gauge anyway. I will see what I can find this weekend.

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for that switch would you? I might try to see if I can pick one up just for good measure.

Thanks!

If all the gauges are working except the fuel then you probably have a sender issue not a gauge problem. Ground the fuel sender wire then turn the key on and see if the gauge moves. Don't let it peg to the full side or you will burn out the gauge.
