I was wondering if the 383 had any oiling problems and what oil pump should i go with for a mild performance type rebuild?

For a mild performance build, you don't need any oiling modifications. Just make sure the #4 cam bearing is installed correctly so oil gets to the rocker arms. If the engine is going to rev 6,000+ rpm you may want to get a high volume pump.
Some common mods are to enlarge the oil pump pickup tube to 1/2" along with the passages to the oil pump, and use a higher capacity oil pan.

No real oiling issues you need to worry about on a mild 383 build. When I did a backyard hone'n're-ring on my 440 I used a melling high volume pump. Had good oil pressure with that pump. I would say on my 440 with original crank/bearings the hv pump was good for a 10psi increase across the board over my stock pump. If you're doing an actual rebuild with new bearings and a crank that's been checked out, a regular standard vol pump will also do just fine.

Just be sure and get the #4 cam bearing in it right so the heads will oil. Ronnie

Read this , I would do the mods suggested , but instead of restricting the passages to all the cam bearings , obviously #4 , I now drill an 1/8" hole opposite the hole that is in the bearing and install it with the 1/8" hole over the oil passage. This will mod will get more oil where it's needed ... the crank and rods. Also do the passages to the crank from the main galley , again more oil where it is needed , the bottom end. No need for a hi volume pump , std volume with the high pressure bypass spring .

There are no oiling problems, and you don't need to make any mods. If it make you feel better, put a high volume pump on
