how much weight will a 12 point MS or CM cage add to a car?

Mine is 10 point MS and the pipe weighed 134 lbs. It's in a 69 Dart. Jim

I may be off-base for what you are looking to have answered, but if you are trying to determine strictly by weight how much a cage will slow your car, you may also need to consider the cage will stiffen the chassis.

Normally you can figure 100# = .10 sec in E.T., but with a cage there is less energy wasted flexing the car and more power getting to the tires, so it may not affect E.T. as much.

I thank your first question should be which is stronger and which is best and what are your reasons for thinking and saying that I have been told by many racers, budget and top dollar racers, that chromoly it is stronger, lighter and it has memory and is harder to bend, especially in a wreck and it ends up protecting the driver better They thank it is better in a drag race car I had my street/strip cars roll bar and sub frame connectors done with chromoly for those reasons To get the answer on the weight try calling some of the better chassis makers that sell kits and ask about the weight for a kit for your car in MS and chromoly

I just wanted an idea of how much weight it would be as i had no idea.

For a adverage guestament,MS-2.5 lb/ft and CM-1.5 lb/ft for all large main tubes@ 1-5/8"
