Well had quite a run at the end of the season. If you would have asked me a month ago how the season would end I would not have predicted this. August 22nd I had the misfortune of losing the bullet in the car. Had the #6 rod bearing tighten up. (Had around 1000 passes on the engine and anyone that knows me knows I run the snot out of my car.) I wasnt upset the engine was hurt as it has done me well in the last 3 seasons. That week I pulled the old 383 12-1 motor out of the corner (this thing was assembled in 78, we installed new bearings in 2004 when we put it in my sisters car) I put my aluminum heads and E85 carb on it and went to the track.
I struggled with this combo for the next 3 weeks couldnt cut a light, started deep staging in modified and that was working but the car developed a bog. Was using the delay box in top and working good but the car woulddnt run the number.
I kept at it keeping as positive an attitude as I could while tuning on the car.
Fast forward a couple weeks to the Norwalk CC. Friday night in the gamblers I was shallow using the trans brake, hitting the tree as hard as I could the best light I could muster was a .022. This was good but the bad was when I missed I was 062 and sent packing. Okay Saturday gamblers I know I will deep stage in No Box and use the delay box in box. Well this didnt work all that well either as the bog came back when deeping and cost me. Well Sunday out of ideas I decide I am going to take 2 bumps and hammer the tree with the trans brake. I wasnt stellar but .027 - .038 for 7 rounds of eliminations I was ecstatic. I met my demise at 5 cars at the hands of the eventual winner.
Now going into the Div 3 IHRA Team finals I had hopes of doing well but didnt expect what happened next. I was one round away from doubling up....I won the Friday night warm-up race in No Box. 9 Grueling rounds, the car hit the number in 5 of them....(I helped it run it a couple times...LOL) My lights were between a 6 and 31. Sundays main event I went 7 rounds where I lost to eventual winner Mike Balaska. I missed the tree a bit and was 40 and 1 above dropping he was 000 and 1 above for a .010 package.
So all I can say is WOW! This just proves if you stay determined and keep you head in it you can do great things.
Thank you to Bob George Racing for their support this season. I couldnt have done it without you guys again.
Bob thank you for the words of advice that help to keep my head in the game. I was pretty distraught after the 2nd week with the old motor but a visit to your shop and you got me back on track.
