Can anybody give me an idea of what gear ratio a 73 Power Wagon 318 auto 1/2 ton 4x4 8-3/4 with locking hubs should have. I know it's impossible to know for sure with the info I gave but does anybody have a good guess. A guy is selling the rear for cheap but doesn't know the ratio he thinks it's a 3:55 It's about 25 miles away and I don't want to go after it if it's a highway ratio. I just plan to use the center chunk for my Roadrunner.

I bought a '74 W100 new, 360, auto, 3.55 gear. You may want to check for a Sure Grip, mine had an open diff, SG was opt. Don't recall if it was the std gear or optional.
Sold it in '77, only Mopar I sold that I wish I had back.

It should have some tags on it that identify the ratio, or he can jack one side up, then spin the driveshaft and figure out the ratio from there. If he has one tire off the ground, he'll need to halve the tire rotation count.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Yes an 8 3/4 chunk is a 8 3/4 chunk.

Take care,

the axles are most likly are candates for cut and respline

they may have the larger flange with 5 on 5.5 wbp or the 5 on 4.5 wbp

check the axles to see if you have 28" before it tappers down, those could be cut for A-body specs

the housing is same as a c-body,just spring over axle

my 3.91 sg was from a 72 4x4

my 3.55 sg was from a 74 van

my 3.23 open was from a 67 polara

they will swap right in

what gear/chunk do you have now?

These are for my 73 Roadrunner I don't have a center chunk at all I just have a 69 B-body housing with axles and backing plates.
