Guy's I have started having air shifter problems with the car, and can't put a finger on it, it is an intermittent missed shift, sometimes it won't shift high gear, sometimes it shifts from low to high, never have been able to figure it out, I have changed the following things, shifter cylinder, shift box, adjusted shift pressure, up and down, checked the ground wires, you can sit and cycle the shifter all day long and it will never mess up.
I have used this set-up going on 3 seasons now, and have never had any problems until this year.
It cost me a race last night, and today I have changed the gate back to where I can shift it myself, I know it can't mess up that way, so if anyone has any suggestions, or have had this problem, and you cured it, please share the secrets.
Thanks Dave

Dave,
Double/triple check the shifter cable adjustment at the transmission. I like to set the trans in 2nd gear and be sure the cable connector slides in and out of the trans shift lever smoothly. Check it again in 1st and 3rd. Takes two poeple, one shifting, one checking, otherwise you will wear yourself out getting up and down! LOL
Check the shifter cable routing. It could be getting in a bind when the engine is torqued up at full load.
What shifter are you using?

i would do above post and if you can trick the airshifter to activate that will help you that much more.

I had a issue like this. I ended up putting a RFI Noise Filter on the car. MSD makes them.
Knock on wood but all my shift issues went away.
Why does divorce cost so much?
Because it is worth it!!!!!

Davey, do you know if the air shifter is activating and not moving the shifter or is it just not activating at all. Could be activating and not moving the shifter far enough. Is it always high gear that its missing or 2nd gear sometimes? I'm not sure what your set up is. Mine is "Brian built", so far the only issue I've had is forgeting to turn the bottle on. I did once have a MSD RPM activated switch go bad, but it wouldn't do any thing. Brian
Hello Brian,
Shifter set up, is a cheetah, reverse style shifter, with the biondo style air shift deal, what happens when it messes up, is it will not shift high gear, and sometimes it will make the 2nd gear shift, and go right into the high gear detent on the shifter, hard to win a race when you leave in low and it shifts to high, or doesn't shift high gear at all, if it was just 1 problem either way one might trace it down, but 2 different problems, are sometimes hard to figure out, as of now I have replaced the shifter gate and am going to start shifting it myself, that way I will know it will shift, and then the only mistake that can be made with passing air will come from the driver.
Dave

I have never used a PPP shifter, but my Pro Ratchet is bullet proof. I made my own air shifter for it. Mounted a Humpry's air cyl to the shifter handle, added a electric air valve w/ 100 psi regulator and fire it with a MSD RPM activated switch. I also use CO2, not air. With out a doubt, this addition contributed the most to the consistancy of my car. I built/installed this part about 1988/1989? A long time ago. Brian Dunnigan

I'm sure you checked the wiring to the cylinder, It sould be by it's self. You don't want EMF interfearance. Electrical current cross talk.. If you have changed all the devices that make the car shift then The rpm switch trigger is the problem child ask your self . What is telling my rpm to trigger the cylinder. (Tack) (Ingition)Off Coil? what ingition are you running 7al2?
