I was just sitting here looking for lifters for my 440 and I had an odd thought. Could solid lifters be used on a cam that has been ground for hydraulic lifters? If so, then what would some of the advantages or disadvantages be? Just a curious thought.

iirc a hyd lifter on a solid cam will make the solid cam (effectively) milder as some lift/duration will be lost in the transition and a hyd cam has too fast of ramp speed to use a solid lifter. Dont quote me on this just what I remember reading.

Actually the hyd lifter will eliminate the valve lash used with a solid lifter making the solid cam effectively larger by several degrees duration and what ever the lash was in lift. But,(and this is a big but) some lobe profiles work ok with either style lifter and others do not. Better ask the cam manufacturer about the specific lobe in question.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

To make a ong story short a solid lifter cam will not work efficiently with a hyd. lifter and vice versa. If they did they would make only one type of cam - one that would be efficient either way.
