Does anyone have experience using KB211 Hypereutectic pistons in a 70 426 Hemi? I have a set of .005" over pistons that I was planning on using in a stock motor. CR is suppose to be 10.25-1. I know about the ring end gap requirements.
What are your thoughts on this piston?
Here is a chart showing the actual clearances.

the 211 is higher comp than the 210, with block sqaure decked and heads cleaned up 3-5 thou you looking at more like 10.5 to1 with 38 thou gasket. which is ok for 93 and steel heads on hemi

STOP...and think a little bit first. Isn't your Hemi worth a GOOD set of FORGED pistons for a few hundred bucks more??????Dave

good pistons and not near as heavy as the living in the past forged pistons.

forged pistons are not a living in the past thing, they are a very good measure of safety. i leave the hyperpiston option for chevyboys trying to save even more money on there wallmart engines

I have had these pistons for many years and the rotating assembly has been balanced with these pistons. I would probably have to add Mallory metal to the crank if I go with forged pistons.

So if anyone has any real life experience with these pistons in a Hemi, I would like to hear from you. Pros and cons.

Hate to be anal but a good set of forged pistons aren't going to weigh any more than the 785g slugs you've already got. My custom JE's for a 4.50" bore came in at 805g without any lightening. Dave

How will this motor be used? Per the chart you posted, cylinder wall clearance varies with intended use of the motor.

I used quality forged in my motor because it see's regular hard use and I agree with above post about why cut corners.

If the motor will see an easy life, then you may be ok with K/B parts.

"my motor will live an easy life" is usualy a very bad excuse wich often means noone will care about getting it tuned in just right,at some point someone will step on it and if the tune is lean or to much timing there will be broken pistons,wich may or may not ruin the block and or more.. may also happen from other fuelrelated isues. good pistons are a cheap insurance since they have a much better chance of survival

Snoopy, KB Hypers are not bad pistons. Actually they are real good if you install em according to the specs.

I have a set of those on my 360 engine thats basically a stock rebuild with 10:1 compression and a little street cam.

On the other hand, on my HEMI I have Diamond Racing forged pistons.

Get my drift???

On a HEMI you dont want to cut corners on pistons....its an epensive HEMI, if something goes wrong it will be an expensive mistake and you will be banging your head against the wall. You dont want to cut corners on the shortblock.

If you put hypers on it will be something that will bug you always and will be on the back of your head everytime you want to floor that beast a little bit.

Gimme a break, plenty of people on this website using kb hypers in 500-600hp 440 builds and our "wal-mart engines" are surviving just fine. I don't think the hemi pistons are going to be any worse. But I know there is a lot of brainwashing with the hemi crowd that it must cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$ if it is a hemi part. With that said, the cost difference between buying a set of forged vs hyper pistons for a hemi is literally a drop in the ocean so it really boils down to what you want to do.

Also, has a machinist checked out your block to find out if it'll cleanup for your .005 oversize pistons..?

The block has already been honed with plates to the dimensions stated in my clearance chart.

The pistons weigh 781G without pins and keepers. 947G with pins and keepers.

Snoopy, like I said KBs are good....but given they are going in a HEMI I guess the price difference shouldnt hurt that much. Look for deals on building that HEMI for some less coin elsewhere really. For instance, use the stock rockers, you dont need that roller stuff.....stuff like that you can always upgrade later on....

Once you build the shortblock its there for good.

It is strange that For Hemis Only does not have a problem using KB pistons in there 426 Hemi builds.

Chuck at Best Machine can help you out choose a set of Diamonds. Tell him I sent you.

Like I said you will probably be fine if you go with the KBs, I have used them myself in some engines with ZERO problems. However, I would not build a hemi with them. I mean, its a HEMI. Its a race engine that somehow ended up on street cars...race engines must have forged pistons!!!

Its like having a Ferrari and putting budget Korean tires on. Yes, I guess it wont harm it and it will drive pretty much OK....but it just isnt right!!!
