Not familiar with a 500 stripe. Do you have a photo.

Looks like an R/T stripe only it says 500 instead.

I'd do the sides first since the sidemarker lights are going to determine where the stripe ends up going. Clean the surface with wax and grease remover and then tack rag it right before the decal goes on.

It should be like the R/T, MAKE SURE the 500 is down the center of the body line of the vehicle for up/down location and the side marker lens should be in the middle of the stripe for for/aft location. Use masking tape to locate everything and wet down the body with a little spray so you have some play in moving it around if necessary.

I've read that you use a dash of dishwashing liquid & water in a squirt bottle, and then use a non-maring squeegee to work the bubbles out. They do make an actual product for applying decals that allows plenty of movemnt before they set.

As to where it goes, do a thorough Google search using the images tool.

Soapy water works great, but don't use too much soap. A drop or two in a spray bottle is plenty. All it has to do is feel slick between your fingers in order to work right.

Personally I like applying vinyl dry when I can since it eliminates the possiblity of it sliding around. 99% of bubbles come from going too fast and/or not pressing down hard enough. I would probably do the sides dry and the trunk lid with water since it's too wide to hold onto with one hand.

I laid the stripe on the car and marked it with a blue painters tape as a guide line. Sides first because of the marker lights.

Thanks the instructions say to use the tape and some soap in the water. I'll post some pictures when it's on. I hope to give it a go tomorrow, weather permitting....

I went to a "pro shop" ONCE thinking they could do it better than I can. NOT. Never again.

I thought the stripe with the "500" was a 69 only stripe?

Charger 500 was a upgrade option for a 70 Charger, much like a coronet 500. It had nothing to do with the 69 500.
anyway here's my handi-work

They look great! Did you use soap finally?
Can you fly to Denver and help me with mine?

I followed the kit...5-10 drops on dish soap, cap of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. I had a few bubbles I poped with a smallllllll needle. I took my time lining it all up before I started pealing the tape back.

Looks awesome, good job. I need to replace one of the stripes on the door of my 70 Challenger that got rubbed /torn. This gives me the confidence that I should be able to do it my self too.
Now you just need to get the 70 tail panel or black out your taillight surround to help break up some more of all of that green. just my opinion.

I have the panel, and yes it NEEDS it. That is going to be a challenge because this was an XH car so I have to drill the holes and find the right mounting tabs.

I did this once for one of my buddies Chargers. I made a template out of regular ole thin paper all taped together to get the width & pressed over all of the studs to get the location of them. Then transfered everything tracing onto some thicker template board like poster board & then taped on the car & drilled all of the holes. Worked perfectly.
