A body. I understand it should be cut/compressed a certain amt to reduce the play then the plate welded on the bottom. How tight do I want it to be? Thank you for your time.

Cut the weld on one side of the LCA bumper plate first. This will allow the LCA to close parallel.

Play around with it and you'll see how much. The t-bar socket should still rotate freely, but lose some of that slop.

LCA plates are a waste of time.

Oh no there not, IMO! Mopars are known for front end tire wobble.

Any thing you can do to tighten , any of the front end componets, will help that issue.

If you have a small home mig welder or have a buddy that does, its a El cheapo fix in the right direction.

Is it absolutely needed, no, but it will help in the scheme of things. mike

LCA plates are just as beneficial as boxing in a frame rail, or gusseting a rollbar, etc,....if your running them on a trailer queen,..then yes they're a waste of time,...but Robert has some "intentions" behind his build using them

I think the bigger gainer with the welding straps/plates or just re-welding the bump stop plate is tightening up the looseness in T-bar adjuster to the LCA frames.

"LCA plates are just as beneficial as boxing in a frame rail, or gusseting a rollbar, etc,"

Not really. You are assuming any stressed member can be made 'better' by boxing it. It only matters, in fact, if there are meaningful forces at play in the direction you are improving.

Will a plate make an LCA stiffer and less prone to flexing? Yes, mostly in the torsional direction. Unfortunately, LCA see very little torsional force. In the direction they see force - the vertical bending plane - they are quite strong by design.

I'd also be willing to bet all the tubular upper control arms that are the rage are not as strong in all the right directions as a factory arm. If you look at a factory arm it is actually a very 'scienced out' piece that few guys could make in their garage or shop. But that's another topic!

At the sway bar tab area there are torsional forces. Especially on the 70-74 B/E LCA and the 73-76 A body LCA. Those look like the left LCA pictured in the my post above. They don't have any support on the bottom of the LCA halves.

I added that welded in support strap under the sway bar tab in my picture above. That is not factory. I run a 1.25" front sway bar compared to a factory 7/8 sway bar. The 1.25" sway bar exerts over 3 TIMES as much force on the sway bar tab.

I wouldn't put tab under the strut rod if I had them to make again. That's where every one I've seen has bent at. But I'd rather replace a bent LCA than fix a bent frame.
