Hi!

When looking at a stock E or late 60s B body factory brake system...

where is the 10 lb residual valve for the rear drums located at?

All I can see on my E Bodies is the proportioning valve, the metering valve attached to the bracket right beside the residual valve and then all the plum, big all the way back to the rear end where it goes into the distribution block at the rear end which is held by the vent on the rear end housing....

but I dont see any 10 lb residual valve for the rear drums!!!

SCHOOL ME PLEASE.

There is no ten pound valve on a stock system. It`s a four pound valve and it`s located in the rear fluid port of the master under the tube seat.

10lb rpv is an aftermarket item sold for the drum half of a brake system in a street rod where the M/C is under the floor or otherwise much lower than the std firewall location & is installed inline in the line to the drums

The 10 lbs valve is used to prevent the plungers from unloading and creating a spongy pedal feel. Be it under the floor or on the stock location. When you mount the master cyl under the floor on a rod is when you need a 2lbs residual valve for the disc brakes, if the MC is up on the firewall on the stock location there is no need for a residual valve for the disc brakes. The drums always need a residual valve of some kind, even when the MC is up on the stock location on the firewall.

I have it setup like that on a couple cars and it works perfect, the Master Cyl is up on the firewall on the stock location, and I have a 10lbs valve for the drums.

Is there anyway of knowing if here is a valve behind the brass seats on a master cylinder without taking out the seats? I dont want to damage the seats but I want to verify if there is a valve in there or no valve at all.-

car companies got away from using residual valves a long time ago by putting a spring in the wheel cylinder instead. It keeps a slight constant pressure on the cups, keeping them from leaking.

stick a drill bit into the brass seat and you'll feel the RPV if it has one as it is only a neoprene valve on a spring. You'll feel the springiness if it has one

If you are talking about your 69 Hemi charger with FRONT DISC brakes there is an extra valve , is it a 10lb ??? , in the REAR line AFTER the distribution block on the frame rail , you buy a 2 piece rear line and it will be apparent where the valve mounts.

That's the proportioning valve. The RP valve (or valves on drum cars) are located, as was mentioned, in the master behind the tube seat. Not needed with any rear wheel cyls mfg for 1975 or later, in fact, after that, Ma Mopar did away with 'em completely.

Rick is that when Ma added iirc a ~dime sized flat metal piece behind the rear wheel cyls' seals to support them & keep them from leaking air?

Yes, the "expander". later they simply used rubber with more plasticizer.
