My son & I just rebuilt a 1974 360 for his Duster. I helped him with the lower end but he put the heads on by himself. I have not built a small block in quite a while. When I pre oiled the engine with my prime rod I had oil flow on the driver side rockers but did not see any on the passenger side. We used FelPro gaskets. I thought maybe that he did not put that head gasket on correctly and the oil hole was blocked. When I looked @ the diagram of the gasket it looked like the oil hole is on both locations of the gasket so it did not matter. Should I have enough pressure with pre oiling to see oil on the passenger rocker or is there something wrong? I don't want to pull the head back off if I don't have to to check.

Did your turn the motor over by hand while priming? I forget if a SB is like a BB but the oil to the top end is timed by the cam, and you will only see oll to the heads one at a time when the holes are lined up correctly.

pull the plugs/you man the drill/w a 1&1/4" socket/breaker bar have him turn it slowly CW until he hits the spot where it oils the other head

SB decks have the locating dowels (2 on each bank) offsett and the correxponding locating holes in each head gasket are offsett to match this so 1 gasket goes "up" and one goes "down", why I have no clue but it just means that the top side of the gasket is touching the head on 1 side and the top side of the gasket is facing the block deck on the other side and this puts the locating gasket oil hole to the front for the #2 cam journal on the dr head and to the rear for the #4 cam journal on the pass head. Short version: the head gaskets will only go on 1 way on a sb & unless the cam oiling hole was not punched (not likely, the lawsuit potential could be devastating) then have him turn it slowly (if he needs some strength training leave the plugs in). Just tell him they need to stay in

If you are running the stock shafts and rocker arms are the shafts positioned properly? I'm not 100% sure on the 360 shafts (maybe some one else can confirm), but the 318 and others have a notch in one end of the shaft. Drivers side notch has to be in front and down. Passenger side shaft needs to have the notch to the rear and down. This is all based on whether the 360 oils the same as other small blocks.
