What type of motor? Stock rebuilt? High performance? Race intentions?

As you know, the torque can affect the bearing crush which could affect the bearing clearance. Did you take any measurements during the assembly? How tight were the bearings to begin with?

Is the motor already in the car?

So long as the bearing shells are tight enough against each other to form a perfect circle then your ok. If you ever bolt a crank into a block and try to turn it with the main bolts not being at least close to fully tight you'll find the crank won't turn over because the bearings are in an elipse rather than a perfect circle. When the bearings ends touch they push the rest of the bearing tight to the main journals.

If I had to bet money I'd say it's ok since 10 ft lbs isn't a lot. Better the crank bolt than a rod bolt....

Did you rotate the crank during assembly without the oil seal in place? If it turned nice and free, then I would not worry about it.

did a little rotation when i was putting new main bearings in, then after they were all in just checked it to see if it would rotate and it went fine. so thats what the deal is.

There's a reason for specifying fastener torques, to get the design holding forces. This isn't the place to cut a corner.
