Im going to the Ca DMV Monday to have the Vin or should i say Von verified on a 68 Charger. It sat for 13 years and is off the computer records. Im afraid that they wont understand why the vin # is different that the VOn on the body and fender tag? Is there anywhere i can get the info to show them. Hope i make sense.

Chances are they won't even look for the body stampings, if they do explain and point out that the SO number, which is stamped into the fender tag, is also stamped into the body.

Thanks Scott, i hope i just don't get a by the book knuclehead that just wont understand. the car is quite original and unaltered for the most part but also my luck has it the von the ending digits are a scosh off its like 8B3497347 vs 8B349327 , the fendertag is proper for the options of the car.

Please send me pics of the body stamping number, the fender tag, the VIN, and the broadcast sheet if you have one, I'll see what I can figure out for you. bugframes@msn.com

If you belong to AAA, I would suggest taking it there instead of the DMV. I made the mistake of taking my '67 Barracuda to the CA DMV when I bought it out-of-state in 2004. The clown working there had no idea what he was looking for, and wouldn't listen to me when I tried to tell him where the numbers were. He made me take it to the CHP to have it inspected. Even the CHP officer didn't know what to look for. Luckily, though, he was willing to accept the information I got from Moparts and signed me off. When I had to register my Coronet (another out-of-state car), I took it to AAA and I was out of there in about 15 minutes. Good luck.

Roger

if AAA or other inspection is available - use it!
The president of the local mopar club had three trips to the NV DMV with his /6 '68 Dart convertible. If I have Chargers registered with the same SPD, I can verify if the SHIPPING ORDER NUMBER (S.O.#) is appropriate for the VIN# of the car.

I don't know if you need the VIN verified with a title in hand in your name, but if you do you might get lucky. I explained to the clerk here in Fresno that she was NOT going to find a second VIN on my son's 67 Barracuda (no fender tag or broadcast sheet, either). I offered to come home and get my GTS (VIN, fender tag, AND two Broadcast sheets plus the front and rear stampings). She talked to her supervisor for a bit and came back and approved it.

I would likely have trouble with my Barracuda as there is no fender tag, no broadcast sheet, and it appears the rad support was replaced many years ago as it doesn't match the trunk lip.....
