I have an '09 Hemi Ram and I'm almost ready for my 1st oil change. What oil are you running in your Modern Muscle Motors?

a thin grade synthetic. as light as you can go. 5w30 fully synthetic.

what's the owners manual call for?

these new engines have VERY tight tolerances, which is why they burn so clean and efficiently, and last more than 100K miles. so they can get away with much thinner, lighter oils due to the tighter tolerances

I know I need to go 5 20, but I wasn't sure which brand I wanted to go with. I was leaning toward Mobil 1, but I've been seeing things indicating it's not what it was.

I don't know, lotta people put too much hype into which brand name of oil they use. I would run any of the name brand synthetic oils if it was mine.

in fact, that's what I DO run in all my modern engines. 0w20 synthetic...the stuff that's in the black bottle, I can't remember who makes it..castrol? my car I've had since new, has 30K miles on it, too new for longevity feedback. my wife's car had 80K on it when she totalled it with a deer's ass, but it was still running like new as well.

I'd like to put 300K miles on my daily driver commuter car, so we'll see how it does.

I think the most important thing is regular oil/filter changes

Any SM-rated 5W20 (or 0W20) will serve you well. Synthetic is just icing on the cake, and allows for extended OCIs.

Try Royal Purple. First oil change in my 2009 SRT8 Challenger picked up 1+ MPG over the factory fill of Mobil 1. Shop around for it; CarQuest here has it on sale $7.49 qt for a case sale. Also think about a catch can for the PCV line-these motors, (5.7 & 6.1) create alot of oil vapor and without the catch can it goes in the intake.

I've been running Mobile 1 5W30 in my '06 Hemi Durango. 140k miles and oil consumption is same as new... one quart low after 5,000 - 7,000 miles.

The owners manual calls for 5W20 but I wanted a little more high temp protection if/when I get on it or tow. The MDS seems to work fine with the 5W30.

I use Motorcraft 5/20 or 5/30 oil , it is a semi-syn , works well , change oil at 4000 to 5000 miles. Walmart carrys it and is fairly priced.

Same here, in my 2010 DD.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

I called 2 dealers and they both said they are switching their shop synthetic from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Platinum. I went to Walmart and 5 qts. of PP was $20 ($4 less than Mobil), so I got the PP.
