Rear window channel is in primer right now.

I've heard its a good idea to put the glass back in and install all the stainless steel trim back on to check edges meeting the trim accuracy.

I don't want gooey tar on the primer. Masking tape? What do you suggest? How did you do it?

Should I do the front the same way?

Clean off all the contaminants from the trim and have at it.

What I am trying to say is that before I put the glass in, I need to put something in between the body and the glasson the primered channel so it correctly so the height/angle before so I can put the trim on to compare how it sits against the body. Trim will get polished & cleaned of course.

Masking tape sounds like a good idea, I use it for lots of test fitting when I don't want a permanent bond.. I haven't done the glass that way but it would be a good idea..

If you are just test fitting, use tape like others suggested but also don't use a full strip of adhesive - just use enough to position the window. You could probably cut a series of 3" lengths and space them every 12" or so.

Just get some Home Depot/Lowes self-stick foam weatherstripping tape...comes in different thickness (find one similar to the glass tape/adhesive you'll use) and stick it to the glass before you lay it in. It is only sticky on one side so won't bother the primer.

Works perfect and still has a little give to it while you are working around the glass.

I like the idea for the self stick foam. Thanks.
