My distributor (76 Plymouth Volare 318 engine) has what appears to be a worn reluctor. I was replacing the pick up coil and noticed that some of the raised sections are not flat. If I place a small straight edge against them, they tend to not be flat making the adjustment of .008 be unable to achieve. Can these reluctors be purchased or will I have to go for a whole rebuilt unit. The distributor is fine with this exception. Thanks for any help here.

Yes you can buy a new reluctor. When working with gap be sure and use a brass feeler gauge.

Thanks for the response. Do you know where these can be obtained? I checked Autozone and NAPA and did not see them offered.

Be sure and pay attention to the position of the pin/slot when removed.

they do not wear but alot of times are not parallel/straight when new but do get chipped from hitting the magnet (need to set .006-8" at the vane that sticks out the most (least gap) and the vac adv will change that gap as it moves the top plate thru it's travel (find the tightest point w a Mityvac) and pulls the magnet around in an ecentric curve. Can pirate a reluctor from any other (V8) dist in your stash. It's a non wearing part.
