Vibration, noise, clutch chatter. Wear & tear on the input shaft & bearing.....

bear with me here. i have a 413 to put in a truck, but i haven't installed it yet. the transmission is a t-18 from a 65 jeep. the input shaft is larger than a a833. i haven't found a bearing that would fit the combo. i have 2 options: first, i could use a copper pipe coupler because it fits the shaft, but it is too big for the crank hole. I could sand it down a bit, but it'll be very thin. my other option is to use a standard bearing and hone down the input shaft. what would you do? the first option would be easier. would a thin bearing do the job??? its a very close fit without the bearing.like 1/8 inch total... so 1/16 on either side of the shaft.

Do some more checking, the T/O bearing Keisler uses fits in the torque converter hole on the flywheel. So there maybe a thin bearing u could use that would work. Second best is to have the input shaft turned, a thin bearing would just wear out fast and put a load on the input shaft bearing which would go away.

Truck.
413.

Well, that combo should work well for about the first day.

Also, all the 90's dodge trucks with a manual transmission used the bearing that sits in the torq converter register on the crank. It's common to use this bearing on 440's and such with cast cranks that don't always have the pilot hole drilled. Perhaps you can find a bearing that will work. If not I would have your input shaft turned down on a lathe to regular mopar size so you can use the 90's pilot bearing or a stock type pilot bushing.

whats the big idea Stanley? the 413 and the t 18 are the best combo i could think of for hauling heavy in an old truck. Why do you think i wont be happy with it?

That type of reworking leaves me uneasy about it's durability.

that is a good permanent solution and you wouldn't have to get into any custom stuff every time you change the pilot bearing/bushing. Take the trans apart and cut down the input tip diameter to stock mopar size.
