Please reinforce my assumption that it is normal for the dash lights to turn OFF when you turn ON the dome light. The car in particular is my early production 72 Challenger with 71 wiring, non rallye dash, which I dont think matters but thats the deal..

I don't think that's normal. Probably got a cruddy switch.

I believe on my 71 Challenger it has always done that. In looking at the rheostat I cleaned up recently it looked like in the dome light position the contact inside it was lifted off the resistor spring completely (assuming it feeds the dash) and on to a separate contact that grounds the dome.

I should know this after owning the car for 15 years but, it kind of just grabbed my attention last evening when I pulled over and utilized the dome light. Can some-one please advise when you go for a ride later tonight?? Thanks!
