A female friend sent me this pic. She wants to know what engine this is. Its in a 56 Dodge truck, but the truck originally came with a straight 6 she says.

Any ideas?

poly "A"-engine

Quote:

The dependable 218 CI L-6 engine which had powered half- and 3/4-ton trucks since 1942 was dropped in favor of the slightly larger 110 horsepower 230 cubic L-6. The 241 CI V-8, Dodge's first OHV V-8. These engines continued through the 1956 model year.

C-series pick-ups 1954-56

missed the replaced 6 cylinder truck part

poly engine came out in '56

318-Poly motor. Or, 318-"Canadian" motor. Or...318-"wide block"... used from 1966-back to mid-50's or so. Easily identifiable by the 2 bolt valve cover design.

Replaced with the LA-318 in 1967.

the engine is not original, BUT,(THIS IS BIG) the truck itself ..... does this truck have a single wrap around back glass? it looks like it in the pic. If this is true, this is a 3 window super, or something like that. anyway... its really rare. dont sell it ever.

That sure looks like a '54 truck to me. '56 had the wrap around windshield.

sounds like the 1 piece "cab-wide" rear glass was mid-'55 & all of '56

Quote:

As a midyear 1955 model Dodge engineers introduced a seriously revised cab with a "Pilot-House" or "Full-Circle" wraparound windshield and cab-wide rear window for even better visibility. The trucks were offered with the highest level of cab interior trim and exterior ornamentation than any previously offered Dodge pickup. New features included two-tone paint schemes and bright new upholstery colors. The upscale cabs displayed new Custom and Custom Regal nameplates.

Hi all, I am the owner of that truck and just joined (thanks for the link Dave). The truck is in fact a 54 C-1-C6-116. I think it came stock with a 218 but there is clearly a V8 in there now and evidence of new motor mounts that were welded in to accommodate it. Trans is 2 speed push button located to the left of the instrument panel. I can't seem to find pictures of another one like that. I'll post more pictures tomorrow. Thanks for all the help!

if that is the original color, and the old memory stick is still working somewhat, i believe that truck has the "le-feme" option.quite rare i believe. i'm not joking about the name. this info was in a mag that caters to originality some years ago, and at the time i thought "who would buy a pink truck?"....
