Hi guys,

I'm new to the board, and I would like some advice. I'm thinking of building a 408 stroker based on a 360 to go into my 1970 challenger. It's now equipped with the factory 318. I upgraded that a few years ago with a slightly faster cam and a four barrel intake.
The goal I'm after is a very docile engine with lots of torque to cruise around on the narrow streets of the Netherlands. I don't want it to be a nervous hi revving engine since I won't be taking it down the strip.
Antother thing to metion is that I hate headers and I will be running original 1970 340 HP exhaust manifolds and ported "915" J-heads with 2.02 and 1.60 valves.
Is this do-able or is a stroker kit overkill because of the somewhat restrictive heads and manifolds. As mentioned it doesn't have to be a hi-revving racing engine but an engine with plenty of torque that's easy to cruise with.
I'm running a four speed with a 3.23 sure-grip rear-end.
I saw an add on ebay for this kit, anyone done business with this guy. Would the quality be any good?

Thanks, Antoon

I have a 408 that I built with the same goals in mind.(340 Manifolds and Magnum heads) You will be very happy with the torque. Just don't go too crazy with the compression ratio and select the cam carefully.

I bought the kit in my 408 from him. Decent enough guy however I bought a cast crank kit with H beam rods and SRP pistons all balanced.

I am running fully worked J heads and stock 72 manifolds and I am nipping at 11 second time slips with just 93 octane pump gas. However, I am running a high lift solid roller cam though.

I wonder how more duration in a flat tappet would perform.

Thanks guys,

That's great info from hughes. I'm surprised of the high torque numbers even with steel heads and exhaust manifolds. This is kind of the goal I'm looking for. I'll check out the other vendors and see what they've got to offer.

It probably is a simple oversight, but you said 360 in your post. But the link is for a 340 kit, big difference.
