Will a 2000lb winch when used with pulley/sheave pull a 3800 lb car onto a trailer? TIA

Maybe, probably.

It will depend on the angle of your ramps more than anything.

But a 2000lb winch is really not very strong so count on that 'will it make it?' feeling every time you do it.

I think it'll struggle IF it pulls it. I had a Warn 3000 lbs that struggled with a double pull on a 3600 lbs car. I've found that rated capacities are more of a guide (under perfect conditions) then real world results. And remember that its gonna crawl using a double pull.

Depends on the winch. Most cheap winch ratings just say they will pull the 2000 lbs on the flat rolling. Not drag 2000 or lift 2000. Pulling up ramps will probably be a problem even doubled up.

HF 2000# winch pulled a early/mid 60's 300 on my trailer no problem.

B, E and A bodies, no issue.

No winch here, just a lot of friends. One more blown motor and I might not have as many friends.

Seriously, 2500s pretty light and using a snatch block will make it really slow.

Thanks guys, I have had this winch laying around, it was for a electric snow plow. I am not sure if it's worth mounting/wiring up to try it. This is a tilt trailer so it may be tougher to do than a reg trailer with ramps. I'm sure a bigger winch would be best, can't remember what size winch was in my old trailer.
Thanks again.

Easily! I have pulled my 4K beast on with one - no problem.

OK then, I guess I'll mount it up and give it a try. It's a Dayton winch from Grainger. I just thought it would be good to have it along, if someday my car breaks and I can't drive it onto the trailer. Would hate to need it and have it sitting in my shop. Thanks

BTW I got got done repainting the steel deck of my open trailer. It had a thin coat of black paint from the factory and the salt from Bonneville caused the deck to start rusting where the loose ends from the tie down straps rubbed on the deck. It started rusting just where the straps rubbed. I'm more worried about the car, it's in my MIL garage. I better go look at it. lol

Shoot, I can move a 4000lbs car on a flat pull with just my rea end. The winch is supposed to be there for when it's not flat ground.

I agree with Mike, I used a 1500lb cheap winch for years straight line and it worked just fine. This was even using ramps that weren't smooth. Yours shouldn't even change pitch pulling on a trailer.
