No, using the AMD panels, the leaded seam will be in the "factory" location, no need to remove the drip rail,....here's a pic of some AMD full qtrs I installed on a customers car, everything lined up excellent, no surgery needed,...just like NOS skins, if not better

Jeff,....that's ground weld that you'll have to grind/cut thru,....study the edge/flange on the AMD roof qtr, trim away a little at a time, and trial fit, but don't trim any of the gutter off

amd roof, but im not replacing the roof,i looked at the car in columbus that amd did and it looked like the amd 1/4 panel came about a 1/4 inch out from the gutter,it looks like i need to drill out spot welds right behind wear the gutter ends(it looks like the rest of the origonal 1/4 panel is welded at the drip rails end)

those look great,i may mini tub like that ,looks like that is full tubbed, will that car still take the back seat?on the 1/4s what im saying is it looks like the factory panel is wrapped under the rail, but i just looked at my amds and they are just flat at the rail(no tuck under like the origonal,i guess ill have to trial fit,so your saying to leave the tuck under that is between the brace for the1/4 and the end of the drip rail-thanks

how did the rear side markers fit? I had heard that the recess was off and needed to be filled a bit on the first run of panel.? Did they correct that?

There is about 3"-4" of drip rail that is attached to the quarter panel and will need to be separated from the quarter panel to do it in a factory manner. Otherwise you can take a cutoff wheel and slice the quarter panel along the drip rail edge and weld along there when installing the new panel. Once the weld is ground smooth, the Heavy Drip Check Sealer from 3M can be applied to make it look factory again.

I agree......my AMD quarters all had a tab that slid under the drip rail. I was able to get it seperated for removal by drilling the spot weld that held the drip rail, then finding the spot weld that held the quarter panel "tab" to the inner structure. Installation was very difficult to get it slid under and in all at the same time. Not sure it was worth the time and effort. I learned all of this by disecting a 68 GTX I parted. I should take some pictures of that area as I think it has perplexed more than one person. I kept the pieces for reference. When I get back to Iowa I will take some pics. Alternatives I have seen used are to remove the drip rail, cut the drip rail where the stainless clips on and bend it downward after drilling or grinding the 3" or 4" Dave describes, or cut as Dave describes above.

If I understand correctly, if your quarters don't have the tab that goes under the drip rail, you would have to do it as Dave describes and the old piece of the quarter or tab would stay under the drip rail you would butt weld your new quarter to it.

You will leave the old piece under the drip rail, then trim the new quarter to fit that area, then mig weld the new and old together at that seam.
This means you will leave the drip rail alone completly. Use a cutoff wheel to slice the "C" pillar along the edge of the drip rail to separate the quarter from that area.
