Figured this was the best area to ask since more fabricators and general hot rodders are in this area. I'm shopping for a new Air compressor for my home garage. Looking for either 60 or 80 gallon, scfm over 10 at 90 psi, and the difficult part, something that isn't ridiculously loud and will last a long time. 220 power of course, and reasonably priced (under 1k).

Any first hand opinions?

11.48 @ 120 with a 1.80 60' 318, stock 1.88 heads, stock 904, Pump Gas, 13 lbs of boost.

9.94 @ 134, 318 on pump gas, 14 lbs w/ Eddies, transbrake 727, 3600 lbs, 3.54 gear and 28's.

I would look at auctions... maybe a small shop... there
are plenty of shops that are going under... just make
sure its 220 or a 440 that can be wired 220 but you
might have to by a 3 phase converter

I looked on craigslist for something used for several months. Finaly bought a new home depot 60 gal 220 volt. 11 scfm @ 90 for 398.00 on sale.campbell hausfield . can't beat the price.
Runs full size spray gun, or da sander no problem.
Installed in my basement. It is however kind of loud.

ANY business that handles GOOD air delivery equipment should be able to help you.

And it IS the BESTest that you can buy ...and it is not really that much more than the "junk".

Pay the extra few hundred bucks and get a Quincy. The quality of the compressor unit and motor are reason enough to step up. Also, the motor and compressor will actually be the stated ratings, not falsely rated because of running at a high RPM with a tiny pulley. Quality.

The lesser quality IR and home depot type units will get the job done, no question.

ANOTHER little tidbit on a Quincy .....

I bought a BRAND NEW one for the shop ......and I had HUGE air-demands with some of the spray-up equipment ..... one piece used 21 cfm at 150 psi ...in short bursts(about a minute). I had a 5 HP two stage 3 phase ....with TWO 85 gallon tanks.

About two years ago I picked up a older Quincy for my garage at the house(at an auction) .... large up-right tank 60 or so gallons ...works great .....

I tracked down the date it was made .... through the pump model # ....

It was made in 1946 !!
