My Master Kill is currently on the negative side so it won't kill the car if you just turn it off while running. I obviously need to correct this to pass tech. I did a search and Plan to rewire like this...please let me know if this is the way to go with a 1 wire alternator.

On your mater cut off switch, you have 2 posts.

Post 1 - Battery positive wire (assuming your battery is in the trunk so it should be a short wire) and the wire from your one-wire alternator (This should be the only wire from your alternator back to the battery side of your master switch).

Post 2 - the main power cable that supplies power to your car (switch panel, starter, ignition, etc)

This will allow the power to be cut off to the car by flipping the master cut off switch from on to off. NHRA/IHRA Tech will check that at many tracks, they will have you start the car and then they will flip the switch and if your car doesn't die they will fail you.

If you also have charging posts on your car, you would also run the positive cable from Post 1 on your master cut off switch to the red post and then run a wire from the negative battery post to the black post. That would be 3 wires to that post.

This will allow you to charge your battery even when the master disconnect switch is in the off position.

This will allow you to charge your battery even when the master disconnect switch is in the off position.

If you have the + cable from the battery charger post
on the battery side of the switch(both of the charging
leads can go direct to the battery)

Cool, thanX Mr.P. I ran into a buddy who told me to double check my kill switch before I try to tech in. Sure enough it kept running and I took a look and noticed it's wired wrong. I just want a quick fix so I imagine this should be an easy method.

Yeah hook it up like your diagram on the + side then
hook your charging posts up direct to the battery

I have never liked running my alternator cable all the way to the back of the car, so I do something different than most people. I purchased a flaming river 4 post kill switch and I use the small terminals to interupt the small red MSD ignition trigger. Basically, there is a ignition 12v that goes from your ignition switch to the MSD to turn it on. Well, I simply route that wire from the ignition switch, through the battery on off switch (small terminals) and then back to the MSD. When someone flips the switch at the back; its as if someone turned your key off and disconnected the battery at the same time. As for the Alternator wire, I have always run that wire to the battery cable lug on the starter.

I know nothing about wiring so excuse my ignorance. Can you tell me why it wouldn't work?

Because the alternator would still be powering the circuits if the switch was off.

I just went through this with my own car, I went through every possible wiring scheme to get around running wire back to battery. Only alternator this works with is the internal IR denso. Even if you kill the field wire (+ source to alternator) the alternator has to see a battery to cause it to "un" excite. Killing just the ignition is a way to get around the running wire to the trunk but BUT... its is said to be very hard on the alternator.

I'm not trying to be difficult, it comes naturally....

Just wanted to take a second to thank everyone for their input on this. I made the quick wire swap like on the diagram and it's all set. Cuts off and I didn't get any extra sparks in the process ThanX Mr. P

I took off work Friday and plan to head to Maple Grove for Test and Tune as long as the hurricane stays off the coast I'll keep you posted. Lots of changes since I was last at the track so it should be a good time.
