I have an old Purple Shaft cam that I would like to find out which one it is. No markings other than traces of purple paint along the shaft. I can't tell if it's a hyd. or mechanical cam. (Is there a way?) The cam is out of the engine.

I measured the lift thinking that I would cross-reference it with known specs from the Mopar Performance cams found in the catalog.

The lift measured out at 0.525". A close cam to this is the P4120653 Purple Shaft Mechanical 0.528" lift/284 adv. duration.

Does this seem to be a good educated guess as to the identity to this cam? Any other suggestions?

Map out duration, lobe separation, etc. That will tell you what you have.
