thanks to chrisf's picture. I think I found a match for valve covers on my car. The numbers say 2946079 99201
and 2536926 FK2-117

Can anyone confirm these are correct for 71 340?
Thank you

Where'd you get that photo? (looks familiar?). Anyway, yes, those are correct for a 71 340, as are the other items you see on that engine. However, the later production 71 340's were painted blue (started in approx. March of 1971). some if not all of these engines had a different passenger side VC, it lacked the large center tab having a small tab in it's place like you see on the two far ends.

Scott, again thank you for your knowledge. Chrisf posted that pic in my other thread looking for 71 info. It did indeed help me find a match.

I asked because I'm pretty sure that's an engine I once owned

BTW, for all of you looking to find "correct" 71 valve covers keep in mind that there were at least 2 styles used, one style had the large wire loom tab on the passenger side, the other used the same individual wire tab in the center as used on the two ends. So far my data shows that the engines painted blue and installed in later built 71's had the small center tag variety (cars generally built after April 1971.......And yes,a couple of exceptions have surfaced.

The carb and a bunch or small accessory items have been replaced but all of the blue painted items on this engine are factory applied. This is a June 71 Built 340 Duster.

Thanks for the added info. This thread bumped up cause I linked it for someone in the tech section. My shop is just now assembling the final details on my engine for install later this month. I am going to run that later model thermo quad you gave me info on.

No, the larger tabs were on the engines painted orange from all plants. I have seen ONE lone set of small tabs that were originally painted orange but I could not confirm what they came off of, could have been either 70 or 71's. I have never seen any original 71 340's painted blue with the large tab, I believe that changed when the color changed.

What years used the ones with the bulge/hump in the center where the breather cap and PCV valve goes?

Sorry Scott - I don't have much info on this car. I grabbed a bunch of pics when it was listed on eBay several years ago. The car is in OH. It's come up before here on Moparts and another member who had seen the car in person said it appeared to be very original.

Looks like a small tab version which would be consistant with others I've seen built after April of 71. Another note, I question the originallity of blue paint overspray on the choke assembly and idle stop solenoid, it has likely had some paint touchup or a complete repaint at some point in it's past.

Yep - it looks like there's some overspray on the solenoid as well.
