I put it behind the rear hanger to get the shackle angle right but would like a little more if possible . I have a little room to work with on my shaft so I ay be stuck with what I have. I thought I saw a post where someone used about 1inch or more but could be wrong it was open in the middle thanks guys mike
I thought you were trying to move the axle/tire rearward so you would need to put a shim at the front spring hanger... if you did this it would change the shackle angle also

I made mine from 2 x 3 square tubing. Worked well, only I would not recommend using aftermarket hangers like those in the attached pic. Use the stock ones or weld the bolts to one side of the aftermarket hanger so it's stiff when bolted together, like a stock one.
WHAT THE FXXX IS THAT you must be from the south.

Actually the northeast, and the car picked up 2 tenths with that little change alone when the chassis rise increased. Got anything useful to add to this thread? How about a picture of YOUR solution, eh?

so with the install of the back spacer you have to reset the pinion angle i hope thats not the case..man i just went thought this ...but im going out in the shop in a few a see what i can come up with ..i want to go out to the loacal track tonight to see if i can get this thing back to where it atlease use to be car has dropped off about 3 tenths for some odd reason...but im still tuneing thats what i say when i have no idea of whats going on thanks for the help guys ill see and post back what i find or do mike
With the increased rise of the chassis make sure your shocks are long enough; otherwise the chassis could do a 'bunny hop' when the shocks top out at the max of their extension travel. Mr Gasket used to sell shock extender brackets that effectively made the shocks a few inches longer, preventing them from topping out.

You need to get that shackle angle correct... should be leaning forward(top) about 30*... if it points to the rear it will lift the diff as soon as it goes straight with the spring

Well I'm guessing I Would not get 2 tenths from that.
I would put the spring where it belongs if there is A tire clearance issue then stretch the 1/4. If you don't want to do that move the rear end back on the perch and bush if needed to fit the pin on the spring. Or have the springs made with the pin moved back. shackle angel should be laid back in the stock location.
Lets not get some one killed hear

He isn't talking about moving the spring back for tire clearance, he's talking about changing the angle of the rear spring hanger (back spring hanger) to get more rise out of the chassis. Right now his is pointing straight down (12/6 o clock). Shimming the rear hanger would point the shackle towards the back of the car, letting it swing in a greater arc and getting more rise out the chassis.
And no, unless they leave the bolts out or loose, no one's gonna get killed by adding my 'southern' looking but yankee engineered rear spring hanger shim...
