Hijack alert!

So, Raul, can you modify the 55mph bumpers on that car? I have a '74 Dart Sport stick shift car and would love to lighten those bumpers a bit but want to make sure I don't make it stock illegal.
Thanks,
Cory

btw, I also have a '71 Demon in the fleet, how odd is that?

Cory,

The bumpers and absorbers are supposed to remain on the car per the rules. However I have seen a few cars that do not have them. I have also seen a few '73 Dusters that are claimed as '74 to run the 360 and some '74 Dusters that are claimed as '73 so they can run the 340. It just depends on the knowledge of the Tech guys that look at the car. I think the extra weight of the rear bumper on the '74 is OK since it puts that extra weight at the back of the car.

I think the biggest problem you could have is if you beat another '74 Dart Sport in eliminations and he knew your car was not legal and he paid the money to protest you.

I see quite a few cars in stock eliminator that are not 100% accurate, but as long as it is not a heads up race no one complains.

The last time I bought any acid it was very expensive $-per-pound wise.

If you take the bumpers apart you will find there is some weight that can be taken out that will not be noticeable.

IHRA Stock J/CM - 360 Crate Motor in a '75 Dart Sport.
But I'm in Maryland at the moment for the IHRA Maryland Nitro Jam and on a friend's computer. Don't know when I could get back to any questions.

Nice thing about the rear shock absorber bumper brackets is that they add weight in the best place possible. So they are not necessarily a bad thing. If you are stuck with a model having front shock absorber bumper brackets and don't want to go through the hassle of converting to conventional brackets, you might be able to find a '76 Feather Duster or Dart Lite front bumper with the aluminum reinforcement between the bumper and brackets to save weight there. Hood and trunk will save a little there too. But they can be hard to find an expensive.
