I've recently put a sure grip in my superbee,i was told the ratio was 3.23 but never checked it.
I'm pulling 3,000 rpm@65mph and am using a 15 inch rear wheel with a 275/60 tyre.
Does this sound right for 3.23?
Is there an easy way to heck the ratio without pulling the sure grip back out please?

Jack the car up put a mark on the tire and spin it around once and count how many times your driveshaft turns. That should get you close without pulling it.

that's the easiest and closest way to find out, without having to take the axle apart to inspect.

I have the same tire size, but run 3.55's. 3000@65 is about what mine does. But it also depends on converter, more converter slip = more rpm, so best is to jack up the car and check like said.

Ok, so I put a mark on the tire and on the driveshaft, and I spun the driveshaft about 2 and one half turns to get one rotation out of the tire.

My "pumpkin" is the type that has the plate bolted on to the back of it, and it has drum brakes. The car is a 1972 Satellite (Plus), with a 400 and an automatic transmission. I think it's stock (except for having the intake on the block changed to a 4 barrel).

With 2.5 turns on the driveshaft for each one turn on the wheel, would it be safe to conclude that the ration was 2.5:1?

Is there such a ratio, standard? What is most likely the type of driveshaft I have? Is it 9&1/2"? Or 8&3/4"? Or even one I haven't heard of yet?

Thanks in advance.

You have a 2:76:1 (2.76's) If you driveshaft rolls the least bit past the 2 1/2 mark then I'd say you have 2.76's

Ah, thank you!

BTW, I used to have a 1972 Charger SE (which came with a 318 and an automatic tranny). Somebody told me that the rear end was a 2.72, and it (like my Plymouth) had a plate on the "pumpkin" (is it called a pumpkin? Who came up with that, anyway?).

Was there such a thing as a 2.72 rear end, and were they common for 1972 Dodge Charger SE's?

BTW, thanks very much for answering! (Getting some intellectual itches scratched here...)

I'm running a 3:23 with 275/60 15s and turn 2500rpm @ 60mph and 3000rpm @ 70mph.
