What is the best way to polish the chrome trim around the back windows and windshields of a 70 Cuda? The trim is off off the car. I used some paint thinner to get off the grim and sealant. I used some mag wheel polish. The pieces are not in bad shap there are no real dings. I am looking to shine them up.

E body trim is stainless, if it's decent you can apply the old elbow grease, but that gets old real fast,....spend the money and buy a nice buffer set-up, it'll pay for itself rather quickly with beautiful results, www.eastwood.com has a variety of starter and professional set-ups, and buffing compounds

I do all my stainless by hand.
Depending on its condition,I wet sand any scratches with grits 400,600,1000,1500,and 2000.
I have a polish kit for my bench grinder and use that.
I then use Mother's polish and soft cloths for the finishing touch.
I also use an old Dremel floor shoe polisher I clamp in my bench vise..Does a nice job!!

I'm sorry , I have to comment on the "Goodyear" store behind the Challenger & Charger. In one photo it looks empty? in the next there is inventory in front window area?

yeah.A few months difference between the pics..
We were in the process of finishing up renovations and installing new display cabinets and equipment and then filling the place up with speed goodies and bling.
We do custom exhaust work, sell and install aftermarket accessories, and wheels.
Oh,tires and mechanical repairs and service--of course!

I don't mean to run down your trim work, and I'm not, but the photos don't really show much other than to confirm the cars have trim.

Thanks for the compliments.Lot of hours fixing, sanding, and buffing--especially on the New Yorker.

Buy the right tools and take your time.
Observe the trim closely since some pieces overlap.Start removing the piece that goes over other pieces first to avoid damage
You can slide the trim tool underneath the trim until it catches a clip.
Your FSM will show the location of the clips,or observe parts cars and make note.
Lift up the edge of the trim just enough to press down on the clip to release the trim
Once you get the trim off a few clips,it will come off easy--do not force it.
Again,take your time.
Hope this helps.

I tried taking pics of the before and after but it is kinda hard to see the difference.I tried no flash, deleayed flash, etc and came out fuzzy or had too much reflection.
Here is the lower windshield trim from the Challenger.Left is untouched, right is finished.

Here is me in action polishing..

For the narrow window trim on a E body, all that's needed is a small buffing wheel and some compound.

After checking prices the pro's were quoting and closely examining what you actually got as a final product.

I bought Jeff Lilly's book on restoring auto trim, small hammer, anvil and buffing supplies from Eastwood and snagged a old 3500 rpm table saw motor.

Read up, made a stand for the motor and went to town.

Time comsuming, dirty and a bit nerve wracking on longer pieces but came out NICE.

The more time you spend sanding and buffing the better the pieces will come out.

Thanks for the help everyone. The approach I have used on this thin trim is the old dremel tool and some buffing wheels. At times I have actually used my fingers and just worked the buffing compond back and forth.

At times I have taken the diffrent componds and mixed in with the mothers mag cleanter and just worked it around the pieces. On the real heavy scrachts I used the heavy duty compond mothers mix and just worked the scrach out. I then work my way down to the ruby red compound across the whole piece with the dremel tool. Then just plain mothers mag cleaner with a clean buffing wheel on the dremel tool.

I have gotten to the point were I can actually see the reflection of my hands in the pieces. It does give one a sense of accomplishment.

Man, I get really scared when I think about using sandpaper. I don't even want to go there. For those of you who do I am envious.

I used 1000, 1500 and 2000 when necessary before using the wheel. In some cases, the pieces were so ugly that just the sandpaper was an improvement.
