Why does this happen, when I deep stage it adds a tenth to my pass, even when im covering less ground? I dont get it...Seems like I would be quicker not slower....

Less rolling time(head start)to the start timers How is your reaction time deep versus shallow Lots oof ways to skin the kitty Training yourself to the difference in leaving on time(not red ) is the key to succes either way BTW, old dogs and new tricks are not to be used in the same sentence on the same day

When you shallow stage, you have a a little more area to cover before you break the beam, and start the timer. So,in effect, you get "a run at the lights"and build a little forward speed.
So when you shallow stage, you lose your "head start",for lack of a better term.
I hope I explained that well enough?

My RT just staging on a .400 pro tree foot braking is .009 to .020.
Deep, Ive tried a couple times now. Is .395 red to .00x.

You're not covering less ground - from a 1/4 mile standpoint. When you shallow stage you are tripping the lights ( starting the timer )from a faster roll than when you deep stage.

Shallow staging gives you a running start at the starting line. Depending on the diameter of your front tire, your car has to move about 6-8 inches before the tire comes out of the beam; enough distance that you have some speed when that occurs. Deep staging causes your rate of travel to be slower when the tire comes out of the beam.
If it costs you a full tenth, you must have tall front tires or the starting line beams at your track may be set a tad high.
You will also see a difference in your reaction times by staging the car differently.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

If your redlighting on a .400 pro tree with a footbrake your age ain't affecting your reflexes any.

Yes, and my practice tree came with .320 programed in it - which they claim is an "average" roll out time
