I'm parting a 72 D100 2wd. The truck has an 8 3/4 rear and I'm wondering if I should save the entire rearend or just pull the axles and center chunk. What do you guys think?

IMHO,yes save the whole thing,they dont make them any more

the axle are most likly canadates for a cut and respline,have a larger flange end with the 5 on 5 1/2"wbp so it can be redrilled for the 5 on 4 1/2" wbp

the housing is a good canadate to have narrowed also

spring perches are on top of axle tube,but are 43" centers same as an A-body(I have an A-body 8 3/4 in my truck,tucks 12" rims and 29x15x15 m/t right in there)

my 72 4x4 truck 8 3/4 had a 489 with a 3.91sg in it

I save every one I can get a hold of myself

72 2 wheel drive = 4.5 bolt circle.

Yes they do but I thought it was different by year.
ie 72+4.5
82=5.5
No?
But to the original question. I try to keep whatever I can get these days. If you have room keep it. Someone will need it if you don't.

besides the 2 having the different bolt patterns the 65/71 is narrower than the 72/74.

I am truckless..

The 8.75 axle used in 4 wheel drive trucks from 1969 through 1974 had the 5x5.5 bolt pattern. The 2 wheel drive trucks had the 5x4.5 bolt pattern.

the 2x trucks went 5x5.5 in 85 also on the 8 1/4-9 1/4 rear axles

so the 8 3/4 4x4 with the 5x5.5 is a good swap and still matches the stock rims
