Can you folks post a picture of how you mounted your trunk-mounted battery?

I read in the rule book that it needs 3/8" bolts. Do you just use all thread?

Thanks!

If you use J hooks the ends need to be welded closed. 3/8 Minimum. I used 3/8 bolts and welded them to the base.

I use 3/8" all thread, Used to have a plastic battery tray with 3/8" all thread secured with nut a washer top and bottom of trunk floor, perforated angle across the top. Now 1"x1" sq. tubing with all thread bolted through with a nut welded on the bottom, same top set up.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I used 1/2 allthread with big fender washers above and below the trunk floor to secure my batterys. I hope the picture shows enough for you to get the idea. Both batterys are Rv/Marine deep cyles from Costco, as big as I could get

I used this Taylor box. It came with 3/8" ALL THREAD..is NHRA accepted,,therefore, I say 3/8" all thread is legal.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Is there a min. spec for the hold down strap? I was thinking of using a piece of 1/4" or 3/8" aluminum. Maybe 1" or 1 1/2" wide. Would this work?

You welded that frame/tray to the floor panel correct?

That looks real good. What did you use for the hold down and tray?

Yes there are welds all the way around. You just can't see them because some are on the inside. That also happens to be right on top of the frame where I put added welds underneath frame to floor. I used 1/2" OR 3/4" square tubing. There is no requirement for the hold down strap that I know of. Common sense here says at least as strong as OEM and remember it is a race car and will potentially crash a lot harder than a road car.

I used 3/8" studs. Threads on each end. Double nuts on bottom side of trunk floor and single nut on top of batter box (on floor of trunk). Then I got a piece of 1/4" stainless and had it bent to fit the battery. Plus my box is welded to the floor and frame.

"rules" call for the hold downs to be attached to the FRAME...I don't know how well that is enforced, but I did make brackets off the frame rail to bolt the hold downs to.

On a Uni Body vehicle it could be argued the floor is part of the frame?

That looks awesome. What did you paint your trunk with? It looks like spatter paint. What brand is it? How do you like it?

Yes it is a spatter paint called Zolatone. Comes in many colors. It is actually a truck bedliner paint. Very thick and heavy when applied. Makes a mess of your gun, but results are nice. Easy to clean also. Gas doesn't bother it either.
