543 rb victor heads, milodon external dual pickup, -12an hose (dual). i bought a fancy top cover plate off a guy on moparts a while back too.

here is the issue, when it sits for about a week i start it up it takes like 2 -3 seconds before my guage reads any pressure. i do not like that. Ive heard these systems do drain back but after a week? really that seems a bit extreme.
so what i need to know is, will i hurt the motor if i dont prime the oil pump everytime? or is this normal and everybody just starts it up and waits for pressure... little advisde guys thanks.

Sounds like it is ACCUMULATOR time furr you !

And if you have a ton of compression ... this situation is NOT GOOD.

make sure you loop the line up the side of the block then down to the pump. make sure fittings are tight. you either have a air leak letting the oil drain back or the lines need to be up higher to keep the oil at the pump. mine can sit for a month and oil pressure is instant. have had that set up for 20 years on 6 different motors never a problem on start up.

My line goes almost to the head then back down to the pump.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Two or three seconds is not unusuall on dual line Milidon sytems. What type and brand oil pressure gauge are you using now? If mechanical what size line from the motor to the gauge? I have used both 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch lines on mechanical guages, the 1/4 inch line makes the oil pressure act like a tachometer

Both of mine do the same thing, nothing wrong with it. Been using them for several years w/ no issues.

2 or 3 seconds? I've had them take 10-15. There is no problem with 2 or 3 seconds.

This is thread # 50 on this topic with Milodon.

With out a doubt that pump is the worst aftermarket pump for the BBD that was ever designed. Milodon has not addressed that priming problem for over 20 years ( why would they because you guys keep buying them )

Rant over

Ya it does help putting ridiculously long pick up line and have it loop up to the valve cover , but it will still do it after a long sit anyways.

I ended up with check valves in my lines. I agree that there are better oiling systems.

I've never had any priming issues with mine sitting for long periods of time. On both of my motors, the lines never turn up, or go above the pump. Both actually point down as soon as they come out of the pump. One motor has the Milodon pump and cover, the other just has the Milodon cover on a Melling HV pump. It does take a couple or 3 seconds to get pressure on the gauge, but no more than that. No check valves, just -12 braided hose.

Don't get me wrong, there's definitely some better stuff out there. Just sharing my experience.

i love you guys.... lol
so this is what im hearing
#1- its fine
#2- fix it

whats a guy supposed to think? i saw check valves in summit, my question was do they restrict flow?

also is one oil better at protection than another for these startups? i remember watching an infomercial on zmax oil additive... any thoughts on that?

Where are you taking the oil pressure readings from? Back of the block takes a little time for the oil to fill the oil galleys up so the gauge will see the pressure If that is the case 2 or 3 seconds is normal, also as I mentioned earlier the size of the oil pressure line can and does make a difference on how quick the guage will read changes, start up to 80 lbs on a small 1/8 tube size can take 2 or 3 seconds to see the increase, on the 1/4 inch line it looks like the tach needle climbing MY is your fine, don't sweat the petty stuff
