I believe I used a dull wood chisel (like a screwdriver) and cresent wrench on mine and it worked just fine.

You can get a set of these at Home Depot. Look in the plumbing tools.

Is there a special tool for installing heater hose and by-pass hose nipples into intake manifolds?

Are we overthinking this a tad too much?

They're chrome plated steel. The early morning sunrise is reflecting on them making them appear to be brass. Very useful when pulling out frozen/galled old nipples.

I bought the set 8 years ago for $18. Have gotten plenty of use out of them.

Boy..........the last part of that post could sure take this thread off in the ditch .

I always just used a small piece of steel, never thought about a tool.

The only problem with the internal pipe wrench is it grabs the inside and scratches and gouges the gavanizing off the inside of the nipple which in time will cause it to rust, This is why I several mopar engine builders had me make them.

I know you make some high quality tools, i bought a torsion bar tool from you and plan on getting your antenna nut and mirror nut tools also. Are these nipple tools availble seperately or just by the set? I didn't see them listed on your Mopar page.

Do these nipples rust more than the rest of the sealed coolant system?

Jeez guys. A small piece of sheet metal, of the correct thickness, with vice grips or a crescent wrench and the job is done.
No special tool needed, no scratching the nipple.

Done, simple. Don't overthink the task at hand.

Galvanizing, zinc, cadmium are all sacrificial coatings and will disappear over time. I wouldn't worry about the inside of a plated nipple as the entire block and heads coolant passages are bare cast iron and would rust long before the nipples will. I had these tools from a bathroom remodeling and they came in handy pulling a galled heater nipple on my 383 water pump. Had to use oxy/acetilene torch also. They got the job done asap and also on reinstallation of the new nipple. Would I buy a set to install a nipple? Probably not. Just an option put out to solve someone elses problem.

Yes, they will rust even with coolant. Look at a set of original nipples the insides are always corroded and a bear to remove. There is a reason why water pump manufacturers galvanize their pump impellers .. Coolant passages in a block are much thicker than the metal the nipple is made out of ,not including the increased pressure through the small diameter nipple that the water passages dont experience..., A piece of sheet metal to turn the slot? Not too sure if that would work.,Reason why is ,The slot is .125 wide and only .150 deep,Since the steel nipples are pipe thread and tapered its very important to make sure the nipples are tight. A peice of sheet metal closest to that size would be 11 ga (around .119 thick) Since its only going down .150 into the slot ,I wouldn't think that you could get it tight enough before the sheet metal fatigues. This is why the aftermarket ones you buy from the Auto Parts Store have a hex on the end to be tightened .These are milled to fit the slot and are made from 316 Stainless steel. They are $40 plus $5 shipping USA. I only made a short supply of these. You can email me direct at jrivinius@sc.rr.com for a paypal invoice. Thank you Moparts

Thank you and well appreciated. I was commissioned to make some of these for a few mopar engine builders, I figured i would make a few more for anyone that would want them. Once they are gone they are gone.

Thanks John for providing tools to help hobbyists like me. I have a whole separate drawer in my tool box for Mopar specific tools, all labeled for identification.

A friend of mine who's a professional mechanic really likes the torsion bar tool.
