I've been having some fuel delivery issues recently. First I found that all of my rubber fuel lines had jellied after a recent fuel up. Replaced all of them with Aeroquip push lock stuff. Go to start the thing and it won't start. So I check for fuel delivery, no go, buy a new Holley 110 mechanical pump (figuring the old Carter was dead). Check for fuel delivery again and no go! Use a siphon pump to see if line was blocked, it wasn't. Finally pulled the fuel pump push rod all the way out. It measures 3.218 inches, I've read that 3.242 inches is spec. Would this -.024 inches be enough to cause problems?

Thankyou in advance,

Brian

The rod is symmetrical on first install after that keep the cam end to the cam.

Figure a way to SAFELY determine if the eccentic cup/washer the moves the push rod is causing movement. I have seen the bolt that holds it come loose causing it to not activate the push rod.

Does he have a smallblock? But yes I have had that happen on a 340.

smallblock??? No pushrod so I'm assuming big block. Don't think the dimensions he's listed are the problem

Thanks guys. Yes it is a big block. And I figured out the problem. I had to use a syphon pump to get fuel all the way to the inlet lines on the Holley. Never had to do that before, even when the car sat for a looooong period of time. Now if there were only a way to truly figure out what they put in the gas to jelly all of my rubber lines!

At that point it hadn't sat very long at all(two days). It was also in my garage most of the time after the fill up(locking gas cap as well). One thing is that the fuel had more of the feel of alcohol(ie. quick evaporation and immediate coolness on the skin). All of the rubber lines had been replaced within the past ten years, I didn't think this would have been a problem since "oxygenated" fuels had been around awhile at that point. Still kind of weird. The good thing is that it forced me into using the good stuff(Aeroquip), which really I should have done many years ago.

ps. I think the sugar thing is a myth. The old hoses integrity were completely compromised. The outer shell was balloon like with the internal being squishy. I don't think any amount of sugar could have caused that.

It would be nice if it was available that close but e-85 is pretty scarce around here.

Actually I was being a bit facetious . yep those symptoms sure ain't from sugar. I've only seen that in the old material hoses after years of use w E10 (gasahol) after it came out here (in Nebraska) in the mid 80's iirc or old style material hoses way back on neglected vehicles in pre gasahol days that hadn't been changed in decades
