How in the heck do you get the Brake Pushrod out of a Manual Brake Master Cylinder??????. I know the pushrod is held in with that tiny rubber bushing & thought maybe a few taps on the master cyl. with a hammer while holding the pushrod would've done it, but I've destroyed my old cast iron master cylinder (CAST IRON CHUNKS EVERYWHERE) beating the daylights out of the master, to pop the pushrod out of the back of it & the rod won't come out.

WHAT AM I NOT DOING CORRECTLY???? Please advise!!!!

Thanx!!

The easiest way by far is to remove the pushrod while the master is still in the car. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the master cyl to the firewall and then put something between the master cyl and the firewall and then pull up on the brake pedal and the pushrod will pull right out. Remove the brake light switch if you think that you are going to damage it.

Just pull like hell, it'll come out. Otherwise cut a short block of wood a little longer than the length between the base of the m/c and the p/r hole and use a screwdriver in the hole over to the block as a lever to pop it out. You're going to ruin the rubber bushing but Mancini has them for a couple bucks.

It takes some force to pull that pushrod out of there. I measured it once and it took about 75 lbs to pull it out.

The more I think about it, since I've already destroyed the M/C, I'm just going to remove the piston from the M/C & carefully cut thru it with a cut off wheel, them remove the pushrod. Thanx for the advice Fella's!!

Before cutting it try using a floor jack. Take off the swivel plate and put the rod through the hole. Use a long bar of some sorts through the brake rod hole and place under the jack body, then make sure the piston of the MC doesn't pull through the hole and jack it up. The force of the jack should pull the piston off the brake rod. Make sense.... Mini hydraulic spreader... hahaha

Man, I'd hate to see what you guys use to trap mice! It ain't that hard - its just an itty-bitty rubber grommet !!! Floor jack ... cut-off wheel ... you gotta be kidding !!!

I kid you not.........I put a shaft thru the pushrod hole & the m/c was vertical pointing down. I hammered on the mtg. face of the m/c so hard that I broke the mtg. ears off the m/c. The sucker "ain't" coming out...LOL!!...with normal methods.

That little grommet rides in a groove inside the piston and some times it can be a real bear to get it to pull out. Hmmmmm, How to build a better mouse trap.....?

Yes it's a bear. I put the push rod in a vice, tightened it down, put the legs in a wide stance and pulled on the MC HARD. It tool a couple of pops but it came out without smoking the casting.
