Ive been working on swapping a replacement P/S pump to my Jensen Interceptor, and had some questions that hopefully you mopar guys will know more about. Im replacing a federal pump with another federal pump (not sure what it was sourced off of), but there was a few differences. First, the pulley offset was much different, but since I was re-doing a lot of my brackets I worked around that.

But my main question and concern is My original pump has an adapter threaded into the pump going to the high pressure line. Looks to be essentially machine thread on the pump side and flare on the line side. When I took it off of my old pump it seemed to have an old fiber washer around the perimeter of the threads, and what looked to be a thread sealant as well. In the threads of my new pump was the remains of an old o-ring. The threads in both pumps look to be identical however. Is anyone familiar enough with federal pumps to tell me how this adapter is supposed to seal to the pump? I can get pictures if needed.

thanks,
Jim

I think the fiber washer and/or o-ring would be to seal the adapter to the case, while the flare itself seals to the high pressure hose (compression fitting)

Check out the pictures of this unit on EBay (especially pic #3 as it shows the threaded hole w/o the fitting).

Rick Ehrenberg of Mopar Action fame occasionally would have for sale that threaded adapter on EBay, but none for the moment.

I never had any adapter fitting on my federal pump. Just a straight pressure hose to the ps box. Didn't have any sort of a washer either, IIRC the pressure hose had a self-sealing fitting on the end of it.

Right - The connection of my pressure line to the adapter is a flare type - thats fine. What im not sure of is what i should use to seal the adapter to the pump, since i pulled two different seals from either pump. I guess I could just put some thread sealant on and find a washer that fits around it, but Id like to do it right if possible.

thanks guys!

IIRC, when I rebuilt a p/s pump many moons ago I used the fiber washer

Anyone else have experience with that adapter? Or maybe even which models used it?
thanks!
