Since my search function doesn't function too well..
Are these new 472s squared away as far as quality control?

Are the new 472s run on the dyno by Stanton before shipping?

Anyway to tell if the 472 has been assembled by Stanton and not by Cummins or whomever f'd up the previous ones offered?

I found a really good deal on a new 472 in the crate, and wanted to make sure of a few things first. I know I can have a custom engine built by Barton, FHO, etc., and I have contacted some of these people. However, I am not willing to spend $20K on just the engine alone, so I have been looking into these Mopar crates. Just wanted to hear opinions....

Stanton motors all have the new heads and new blocks. The newer block can easily be spotted by looking for two freeze plugs facing the front, alongside the water pump housing. Cummins Recon motors do not have the freeze plugs.

Cummins Recon motors have heads cast from plastic (prototype) tooling, because that is all that was available before 2007. Stanton motors have heads cast on ridiculously expensive production style steel tooling.
No prizes will be offered for guessing which heads are better....

Any yellow decals indicating Canadian origin=Cummins Recon.
Late CR engines were built in Memphis TN and were generally better than the Canadian ones, but nowhere in the same league as the Stanton motors.

Good afternoon,
I will try to answer your questions in the order that you wrote them...
- The quality control by Stanton Racing is excellent. I had Stanton Racing build a 472 for me last Summer. I actually had Stanton make some upgrades such as aluminum heads, Comp Cams Hydraulic Camshaft, roller tip rockers and a Milodon Oil Pan and I was not charged extra for the upgrades.
- The 472 is run on Stanton's dyno for tuning and quality control purposes prior to shipping. I actually drove to the Stanton shop in Nicholasville, KY to pick up my engine and he ran it on the dyno for me and gave me the dyno sheet.
- No worries about the Cummins debacle any longer. Stanton has the contract with Mopar Performance to build all of the 426 and 472 Hemi Engines. Ray Barton has the contract to build the 528 Hemi engines

Stanton Racing is a first class operation. Gary Stanton has a completely new and separate building dedicated to the inventory and construction of the 426 and 472 engines only. If you would contact Gary Stanton personally, I know that he would give you the same deal as he gave to me with the upgrades for under $ 15,000.00. Since I picked up the engine, I also saved shipping fees. If you have any other questions, just respond back to me.

Thanks ...

I know he has used Indy Cyl head & Comp as suppliers so I think he might be able to get a different block if you prefer. Just give him a call.

I live here in town with him. Got Phil hooked up with him & had another buddy have him build a 528 with Indy Heads & the Barton intake.
