I am currentley gathering parts to finish my 440. I need a alt. What is the largest amp I can put on my car with the stock wirin?
'68 Coronet 440, 440, All brand new wiring (Year One)
Only electrical I am adding that was not original..Elec fuel pump to run only on the start position in the ignition(To Prime)
Thinking about eletric cutouts on exaust.
And maybe later one of the stereo that hides in the trunk (secret Audio)
No electric fans, Msd or anything like that.
As I type I do have the AMP gauge bypaseed under the dash with a nut/bolt and taped up. I am undecided on the MAD AMP gauge bypass
Thought anyone.....

With the stock power feed through the bulkhead, 60 amps is about max. That works well if terminals are clean and greased.

With your electrical loads, 60 A should be plenty. The OE MOPAR would work... with some dimming at idle maybe or the 60 A Denso (Mancini).

If you have already bypassed the ammeter and are planning to use a volt meter, the easiest mod is a second wire from the alternator output stud to the fender relay. Size the wire to your altrenator and include a section of fusible link and you can run any alternator size you want.

I would put the two wires for the amp gauge back on one post of the gauge. Eliminate the taped up bolt that could boucne around and short out.

I want my fair share
