what hp/tq will the stock dana 60 4.10 gears handle,i have a hd-60 rear with factory dana 4.10 gears,going in a street/strip,3400# dakota with small block stroker 418 cid, 480hp/500ftlb torque?looking to narrow it and go with aftermarket axles/posi unit.i make it to the track once a month.

Tire size, weight transfer, flywheel weight, launch RPM...?
With all the weight in the nose, no transfer,small tires and 2,000 start it will take 1,000 hp.

I twisted my 8 3/4 housing up bad enough to snap the ladder bar brackets(poor welding also  )) off it after breaking U joints, pinion yoke, ring and pinion gears and a tranny yoke. All starting with 612 HP and 644 ft. lbs from a 512 ands 518 C.I. pump gas low deck stroker on MT ET bias and MT Et Street radials like yours, 31x60x15. this is in a 3450 Lb Duster, fastest run is 10:28 at 128.6 cork up motor only on Oregon pump gas  I switched to a Dana 60 after breaking the 8 3/4 last year, it was out of a Ford 3/4 ton P.U. it has the 3 1/8 diameter axle tubes. I put a stock set of Dana 4:10 gears in it as it is a street and strip car, 35 spline Strange Engr axles and spool  I have a freind, 9seond PHil who has a similar motor to yours, 418 C.I., 340 block with a set of ported W2 heads, Comp Cams custom ground solid lifter cam plus some NOS. The motor is in a 3400 lb. 1969 Baracuda, he has gone low 11s on the motor(maybe a little faster now  ) and high 9s on the juice, his is a SS leaf spring car on a set of MT ET Street Radials 325x50x15 and a 8 3/4. He recently broke his first drivetrain part, a set of spider gears in the posi  My message is you should be fine with your set up and combination with the Dana 60 and aftermarket axles and clutch type posi Hopefully 9secondphil will chime in, he is in Alpine, NY

yes cab i know phil g. real well,i seen his side gear pcs. he pulled out of his 8 3/4,i just talked to him last weekend,im currently running a stock 67 b-body 8 3/4 in the truck with 3.91 gears and sure-grip,im going to be needing after market axles and thought now would be the time to build a dana 60,since i already have a housing,that is shotblasted/cleaned of old brackets and ready to be narrowed.i figured i wouldnt hurt the dana 60 where i might hurt the 8 3/4,if i add a small shot of nitrous later.
